Berkshire Resident Action Group (BRAG):
The
BRAG was formed in the year 2000 by citizen volunteers. The charter is
to identify and implement projects aimed at improving the quality of life
in the Town of Berkshire. Project identification and prioritization are
based on input from residents obtained by survey and public meetings.
BRAG membership is open to all residents. Accomplishments include the
ballfield restoration, logo design, welcome signs at the north and south
ends of Town and Christmas decorations. All projects have been funded
by grant money.

Meetings

Association (BECA):
The BECA is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Evergreen
Cemetery

Berkshire History Buffs:
The Buffs first organized in January 1986.
Purpose:
to study the history of the community and to promote an awareness of
the heritage we enjoy today through such means as the group elects to
support.
Current officers: Bill Simmons, President, Darlene Wait, Secretary and
Maurice Stoughton, Treasurer.
Interested persons should contact one of the officers
for additional information.
Meetings
are the fourth Mon each month at 7 pm in the Town Office Building on
Railroad Ave.
The
Reading Club of Berkshire:
The Reading Club was organized in 1904.
The purpose of this organization is to promote the awareness of books
and encourage reading for enjoyment as well as personal development.
The club meets monthly at the homes of the various members, of which
there are 22 or 23.

Berkshire Volunteer Fire
Company and Emergency Squad:
The fire Company was formed in 1913.
The organizers were Calvin Buffington, Irving Cleveland, Robert Patch,
John Bemton and Frank Lant. The first fire station was built in 1918,
and the present station was built in 1963, the kitchen and meeting hall
being added in 1971.
The Fire Company presently has about 30 active members, and Fred Davis
is the Chief. Del Armstrong is the First Assistant Chief.
The Ladies Auxiliary was organized in 1959. The Emergency Squad was
organized in the early 1960's.
Marybeth Simmons is the present Squad Captain with about 20 members.
The
Berkshire Fire Police, Captain Roger Howland, respond not only to fires
but to traffic accidents, downed wires and trees, and floods. The police
also assist at parades and respond with mutual aid to other Towns.
Berkshire Free Library:

The Library was organized in 1920 as a local community
effort and received New York State charter as a non-profit educational
institution in 1926.
Located at the corner of NYS Rt. 38 and Jewett Hill
Road, the building is one of the older homes in Berkshire, dating back
to the 1820's.
The Library is presently a member of the Finger Lakes Library System.

Berkshire Free Library

Berkshire Rod & Gun Club:
The Rod & Gun Club facility is located on McMahon Road, where a variety
of shooting events and hunter safety courses are held.

Berkshire Senior Citizens:
On the second Thursday of each month, the Senior Citizens meet at the
Berkshire Fire Station for a dish to pass luncheon at noon, followed
by a 1:00 p.m. business meeting.
On the fourth Thursday of the month, a regular meeting is held at 1:00
p.m. in the Fire Station.
The group has many activities throughout the year, including bus trips,
auctions and other events.

Berkshire Boy Scout Troop:
Boy Scout Troop 30 meets every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the upstairs
room at the Newark Valley Post Office.

Helping Hand Food Pantry:
The Berkshire Food Pantry, located in the Congregational Church, serves
area residents in Berkshire, Richford and Speedsville.
